The Guys was first performed in New York by Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray just three months following the 9/11 tragedy. It was premiered in Ohio by the Rainbow Repertory Co. with Joe Martuccio (Canton’s Law Director and veteran performer) and Jenni Lou Oakes. The Guys is the story of a writer who helped a fire Captain write eulogies for his fallen men. “You don’t really need photos of planes to tell the story, the words are enough,” states Martuccio, “and it’s much more than just a sad story. There are universal themes here that touch everyone’s lives.”
The Guys is performed countrywide as a fundraiser, particularly for safety forces.

Ms. Goshay, one of the most popular Repository writers ever is now a playwright and director. Her play brings her favorite columns to life. They are her takes on current events and life’s joys, frustrations and absurdities touched with wisdom, wit, poignancy and often a well-aimed zinger or two.
We hope to have a whole new production of As I Was Saying in our 2007-08 season!

This play is written from the actual life experiences of these five women, who not only helped to write the play, but also act in it. “It’s absolutely brave, but the end result is worth the risk,” states one of the players. Another adds, “I’m tired of being embarrassed about my mental illness, my mother is not embarrassed by her high blood pressure!” Both lines were added to the play.
