Frequently Asked QuestionsQ What is the Rainbow Repertory Company?
Q Are you a professional theatre or a community theatre?
A Right now, we are similar to both. Community theatre uses volunteers in some positions and so does Rainbow; however, our productions engage professional artists. There is one way that we are different—most theaters set in-house ‘seasons’ and do not accept independent playwrights and directors who want to bring their own artistic visions to life. We are a theatrical company that welcomes independent productions that need a venue or technical advice and support. Q What is the mission of RRC?
Q How does RRC choose educational plays and programs?
A We see a community need and decide to fill it. Or someone from a school, social service agency, business or community/civic group sees a need and asks us to create a program to fill it. Q What kinds of entertainment does RRC produce?
A Anything that’s fun and family oriented! We love to entertain diverse audiences of all ages, from pre-schoolers through seniors. Our latest production arm is musical dinner theater - CANTON CABARET. We are located in a Grand Ballroom in downtown Canton....the only dinner theater with a dance floor! Q Where is RRC located? A Not in any building that we have to pay a mortgage for, maintain or repair. We perform at the Arts in Stark Educational Center, in the Grand Ballroom of the Metropolitan Centre and anywhere else there is a plank and a person to watch. Arts in Stark Educational Center Q Why don't you have a location of your own? A “All the world’s a stage," so a building is not a requirement to do theater. We bring theatre to people where they are, and vice versa, instead of expending our time, money and energy on maintaining a building. Q Can anyone join? A Yes. No formal resume, press packet or picture is required. Just tell us who you are, what you can do and what you would like to do. We always need new artists, board members and committee members. We have the usual organizational committees but will form a new one if anyone has a good idea on how the arts can improve the community (see Mission Statement above). Q Do you collaborate with other arts groups? A Of course! Collaborations are very important to us, but we work with all community sectors, not just other artists, artistic individuals or arts groups. We have created plays and programs with social service agencies, schools, businesses and community/civic groups of all kinds. Q Do you schedule a yearly season? A Yes, but we are always aware of our mission. This means we maintain a flexibility (and a list of writers, actors and directors) meaning we can add to or amend any scheduled productions as they are requested or needed for community improvement. |
